New Gadgets for 2012
Come 2012 and the gizmo freaks among us can be seen cracking their knuckles in anticipation of pawing at the new gadgets for 2012! Wanna find out hat this year offers for geeks? Read right ahead, amigo! Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. ( Arthur C. Clarce )
True indeed! I can very well imagine the awe and wonder of the audience of the late 1980s when they witnessed touch-screen technology for the first time when the Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer Predator hit the theaters in 1987! Remember the extraterrestrial predator creature that uses a touch screen interface attached to its wrist to dial in a series of lines and dashes to set off the explosion near the conclusion of the movie? Could anyone have, at that point of time, even remotely guessed that some 20 odd years down the line touch screen interface gadgets would flood the information and communications technology scene? I doubt it!
Now that you have such options as touch screen PDAs and touch screen tablet PCs, I don't think anyone cares about keys and buttons any longer! The pace of technological progress has been so tremendous in the last decade that it has phenomenally increased our expectations, so much so that it has become our second nature to expect a brand new technology to hit the market every quarter. With the first quarter of 2012 nearing its conclusion, it does not come as a surprise that people are already surfing the Internet to find out what else is in store in terms of new gadgets for 2012. Well, let's check out the following section to find out!
What New Gadgets to Expect in 2012
If you've already gotten over the iPhone 4S and the Blackberry PlayBook, you'reprobably combing through every search result on Google that appears to be about new and upcoming gadgets you should look out for in 2012. Well, here's a list of a few candidates that are definitely worth a generous amount of ogling at and drooling over. Ski along to find out what they are!
Flexible Touchscreen Displays: The underlying concept of flexible-screen gadgets, such as tablets and smartphones with bendable screens, is derived from the ongoing research and development in the field of FOLED (flexible organic light emitting diode) technology and the progress witnessed till date promises a phenomenal leap in hardware technology. While 3M is already elbow-deep into enmeshing this technology in their upcoming product range and the Nokia Kinetic Device range is past the concept stage, Samsung has announced that it is ready to launch its first range of flexi-screened gadgets (if rumors are to be believed, this range includes transparent, flexi-screen tablets enabled with lifelike 3D output capabilities!) before the conclusion of the 2nd quarter of 2012! HP, too, is readywith its concept Media Mat laptop design which is a portable notebook/tablet (depending upon how you wish to use it) that can be rolled up and carried along like a very small yoga-mat! Bendy (wink!)!
MOTOACTV: Is it a watch? Is it a music player? Is it a work-out tracker? Nope, it's a MOTOACTV! Well, that's the closest you can get to a precise definition of this super-gadget! Be it telling the time, scheduling your appointments, heart rate monitoring, counting calories burnt, GPS tracking feature that doubles up as pedometer, playing music (via Bluetooth or headphones) or receiving call/text/data alerts from your smartphone, MOTOACTV fulfills all these roles with seamless efficiency! Equipped with Android Gingerbread OS, this whiz-giz acts as an ideal workout companion as it enables you to keep track of your exercise schedule and smartphone data alerts at the same time besides taking care of your entertainment needs. Now, while this gadget was launched in November 2011, the reason I am mentioning this among must-have 2012 devices is that 2011 was the year of emergence and growing popularity of Android-based devices. All through last year, we saw the development and upgradation of various Android software versions and it has taken us a good part of the year to get fairly used to Android-based smartphones alone. Now that most of us are thoroughly familiar and pretty comfortable with using Android-run appliances, using MOTOACTV won't be an issue if you already own an Android smartphone. Also, as far as connecting your phone to MOTOACTV for receiving alerts is concerned, only Android-based phones qualify for this feature. Therefore, MOTOACTV is THE must-buy gadget of the year for all those fitness freaks who swear by their Android smartphones!
Razer Project Fiona Gaming Tablet: Now that some time has passed since tablets took the personal computing scene by storm, anticipating the development and release of a gaming tablet is more than justified. This concept gaming tablet by Razer is designed with two integrated gaming controllers on either sides of its multi-touch screen and is powered by a Core i7 processor from Intel's Ivy Bridge microarchitecture range of CPUs. This translates into excellent quality graphics and mind-blowing multimedia performance which combine into an unmatched gaming experience. The best thing about this gizmo, however, is that while it runs Windows 8 OS, it is also equipped with an Android overlay - how cool's that!
Voice and Gesture Control TVs from LG: With smartphones and smart televisions being in vogue for the whole of last year, it's time to move on to something smarter. Enter LG's smarter TV range with voice and gesture control capabilities! The model in question boasts of a 55 inch OLED display with amazing picture quality that combines vibrant colors and unimaginable picture clarity. The best part, however, is its unique voice-and-gesture control feature which allows you to do away with navigating the menu using standard remote-control pathways. Can't wait to see it now, can you? Well, neither can I!
Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga: Here's a mind-blowing innovation of an idea that does away with the geek's dilemma to decide between a tablet, a laptop and a desktop. The IdeaPad Yoga is a flexible computing device that can be used as all three! You can use it as a regular notebook, flip the keyboard over completely (so that the top cover touches the bottom of the keypad) and disable the keyboard and touch-pad to use it as a tablet or convert it into a touchscreen desktop by folding the screen back at a degree to form a tent-like structure that allows it to stand independently on a flat surface with the screen facing you - flexibility in its true sense!
Besides the above 5, there are a few more contenders that deserve some attention as the most anticipated gadgets and machines of the year 2012. These would include:-
• iPhone 5
• iPad 3
• Google Nexus 3
• IOGEAR Mobile Digital Scribe
• Blu-ray Players
• iPhone 5

That's not bad, considering that most of the above are expected to release in the approaching second quarter itself! So, if keeping your technology-quotient updated according to the times is your mantra and if you're crazy about collecting the latest gizmos before anyone else does, these new gadgets for 2012 are worth looking out for, especially the ones in the smart computing segment!
